Alison Lewis graduated from Parsons School of Design but she doesn’t just make things we put on — she makes things that light up, tune in and turn on. And she’ll be showing us how in her Fall ‘08 DIY book, “SwitchCraft: Battery-Powered Projects to Stitch and Sew.” The cool thing about this book is that it combines crafting and tech skills. If you know how to sew or knit then you can make toys that light up when they kiss or hack a purse to shine a groovy message to all the world.
Okay, I know I’m jumping the gun on the book, but there are other things you can do in the meantime. Lewis is also the host of My Home 2.0 and when I went to their site, I couldn’t help but notice the solar cell phone charger project. I don’t camp, but there are plenty of other times I find myself without an outlet, so to speak.
